A Texas man who shot his common-law wife 15 times in what prosecutors described as a jealous rage has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Brandon Dickerson, 30, pleaded guilty on Feb. 3, 2026, to the 2025 murder of 23-year-old Alexis Walls inside their Bryan, Texas home, according to KBTX and KCEN. Judge Kyle Hawthorne imposed the maximum sentence allowed under the plea agreement.
The couple’s 18-month-old son was inside the home at the time of the shooting and survived.
Just after midnight on Feb. 7, 2025, Dickerson shot Walls multiple times, later admitting to investigators that he suspected she had been unfaithful, local affiliates reported.
After the shooting, he called 911 himself and reported what he had done. Officers responding to the scene found Walls dead inside the home.
Authorities said the couple’s toddler son, Zaylen, was present in the residence but was not physically harmed.
Investigators did not report signs of a struggle beyond the shooting itself, and court proceedings focused largely on Dickerson’s admission and the circumstances surrounding the killing.
In court, Walls’ family described her as vibrant, devoted, and deeply committed to her young son.
Relatives referred to her as “a hurricane” — full of energy and warmth — and said she “never met a stranger,” according to KBTX. They told the court she was a loving mother who prioritized her child above all else.
Zaylen, who has autism, is now being raised by Walls’ parents.
Family members said their focus has shifted to providing him with stability and support in the aftermath of the tragedy.
Dickerson’s guilty plea brought the case to a close without a trial. Prosecutors sought the maximum punishment available, and Judge Hawthorne granted it, sentencing him to 50 years in prison.
Under Texas law, that sentence means Dickerson will spend decades behind bars before becoming eligible for parole consideration.
During sentencing, the court heard emotional statements from Walls’ loved ones, who spoke about the lasting impact of her loss.
There was no dispute about who committed the crime. The legal proceedings instead centered on punishment and the lasting consequences for the surviving child and extended family.
Domestic violence cases often leave children as the quiet witnesses to devastation inside their own homes.
In this case, an 18-month-old boy was in the next room when his mother was killed. Authorities confirmed he was not injured physically, but his life has been permanently altered.
Walls’ parents have taken custody of Zaylen and are now raising him.
For them, the sentence offers a measure of accountability, but not closure.
The loss of a 23-year-old mother in the middle of the night — followed by a 911 confession — remains a painful memory for a family still navigating grief.
As the prison sentence begins, a young child grows up without his mother, and a Texas courtroom closes one chapter in a case that began with jealousy and ended in irreversible violence.
